21/07/04 - Luke Walmsley Competition

 

Three junior members of the club won Bronze Medals at the Luke Walmsley Judo Competition which was held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Sunday the 4th of July.

 

Luke Walmsley was a 15 year old sports mad youngster who was also a junior member of Grimsby Judo Club. Sadly Luke died a few months ago as a result of being stabbed at school. His parents decided that they would like to establish a sports foundation in his memory and Terry and Jennie Alltoft of Grimsby Judo Club organised this event to raise funds for the sports foundation. The event attracted 330 entries.

 

Eleven year old Jacob Peniket won his medal in the 50Kg category. Jacob is the third generation of Penikets to train at the club.

 

William Plastow, who is 13 years old, decided to put in a late enty, for which he was well rewarded with his Bronze Medal in the 66Kg category.

 

Joseph Selman, who is 15, was entered in the 73Kg category but he had to move into the heavyweights, where he was still able to win his Bronze Medal.

08/05/04 - Yorkshire & Humberside Judo Championships

 

On Sunday March 21st three young members of Aireborough & Wharfedale Judo Club won medals at the Yorkshire And Humberside Closed Judo Championships which were held at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford.

 

Armughan Syed won a Bronze Medal in the 38Kg category for boys under 16 years of age and 14 year old Joseph Selman had his best result to date winning a silver medal in the 73Kg category in the same age group.

 

Adam Firth, who is still only 16, had another excellent day winning the Mens 73Kg category and he also beat the winner of the 81Kg category.
